Squaring the Circle

Triple Aim is a three-pronged strategy to optimize a health system’s performance by enhancing patient experience, improving population health and reducing costs. UHS opts to work from a Quadruple Aim, with the fourth corner focused on improving the medical provider’s work/life experience. This typically means delegating some patient care responsibilities to appropriate provider colleagues, RN Care Coordinators and Wellness Coordinators.

Alan Miller, MD, president, UHS Medical Group, has seen how the present day dynamics can lead to provider burnout, which in turn lowers patient satisfaction, reduces health outcomes and may increase costs. “As we move away from the one-on-one patient/provider relationship and implement every UHS resource, I fully expect our staff’s satisfaction to increase dramatically,” says Dr. Miller. “That will ultimately increase patient satisfaction and ultimately achieve better patient outcomes.”
